Mumbai Indians Team Defeats Chennai Super Kings By 41 Runs To Win 2015 IPL Championship

Mitchell McClenaghan took three for 25 in his four overs, while Harbhajan Singh and Lasith Malinga took two wickets a piece. This is the second IPL Championship the Mumbai Indians have won. Mumbai Indians (MI) were crowned the Indian Premier League 2015 (IPL 8) champions on Sunday night (May 24).

Mumbai Indians completed one of the most remarkable turnarounds in the eight-year history of the Indian Premier League by transforming a terrible start to the tournament - they were at the bottom of the table for the first two weeks - into a title win.



Rohit Sharma’s boys have already left their mark during this season by staging a brilliant turnaround, after getting off to a slow start. In many ways, this season has turned out to be a repeat of their 2014 campaign, when Mumbai Indians lost the first five matches but, then won seven of the remaining nine, to scrape through to the Playoffs, where they succumbed to Chennai Super Kings, in the Eliminator.



MS Dhoni's choice of bowling first on a patchy Eden Gardens pitch was interesting, not because he might have over-compensated for the presence of dew later on but because it was a departure from a strategy that had worked for Super Kings during in their two previous title wins - bat first, score big, then apply the squeeze.



This time, however, the Hitmen have gone a step ahead. They lost four matches at the start of the season but, then caused a dramatic turnaround to win eight of the next ten games, to finish second in the league stage. And the Mumbai Indians continued their charge, by thumping Chennai Super Kings in the first qualifier earlier in the week, to assure themselves of a place in the final.



The final, a repeat of their 2013 success at the same ground against the same opposition, turned out to be one of the easier outings after an unbridled early onslaught by Rohit Sharma and Lendl Simmons, both of whom hit half-centuries, stunned Chennai Super Kings - veterans of IPL finals - into submission. Super Kings were not even given a sniff.

Mitchell McClenaghan was the most successful of the MI bowlers, returning figures of 3 for 25, while Harbhajan Singh was the pick of the bowlers, picking up the wickets of the two dangermen Smith and Raina. Lasith Malinga (2-25) and R Vinay Kumar (1-39) were the other wicket-takers.

Wind Turns Frozen Sand Into Alien Towers On Lake Michigan Shore

Owing to a unique confluence of weather conditions, photographer Joshua Nowicki encountered an extraordinary sight when he went for a walk on the shore of Lake Michigan near the city of St. Joseph last weekend – bizarre towers of sand standing as tall as 12in (30cm).

It turns out that the towers were a unique combination of the intense cold and the wind blowing off of the enormous lake. The wind eroded the frozen sand, leaving behind these curious wind-blasted towers.

The beautiful spectacle was short-lived, however – when he returned later to capture more photos of the strange phenomenon, they had already been melted by the snow.

This Palestinian Woman Found Some Israeli Army Grenades. What She Did With Them Is Amazing.

In a poignant display of peaceful resistance, a Palestinian woman in the village of Bilin, near the State of Palestine’s de facto capital of Ramallah, has planted a garden full of flowers grown inside of spent tear-gas grenades collected from clashes between Israeli soldiers and local Palestinians.

The flowers are being grown on a plot of land located in an area that was reclaimed by Palestinians two years ago in a court battle that re-routed the construction of Israel’s highly controversial security wall. This wall, when completed, will stretch for 430 miles around the entire West Bank region.

Due to the high tensions and frequent clashes between Israelis and Palestinians, she has no short supply of materials for these small flower pots. Some of them even have wires attached so that they can be attached to fences or other objects.

The use of a weapon as a plant vessel is a powerful comment on a region in which many people on both sides are tired of the seemingly never-ending violence and conflict. Indeed, the creative human spirit shines through despite the conflict on both sides of the fence – there’s also an Israeli artist who creates metal rose sculptures from the remains of rockets launched by Palestinian extremists.

We can only hope that both nations’ leaders come to a peaceful agreement as soon as possible. But in the mean time, it’s nice to see that the conflict has failed to completely defeat the human spirit.
