2. The Golden Chariot


The Golden Chariot, named after the famous Stone Chariot in Hampi, travels through timeless historical heritage sites, wildlife and golden beaches. The Golden Chariot has two trains - The Pride of the South that runs through Karnataka and the Southern Splendor that also runs through Tamil Nadu and Kerala.

Route - Pride of the South: The journey begins from Bangalore and traverses through the Nagarhole National Park, Mysore, visiting Srirangapatna, Mysore Palace and continuing to the historical sites of Shravanabelagola, Belur and Halebidu, and a world heritage site Hampi. Thereafter, it enters Badami and Pattadakal and finally the beaches of Goa before culminating the trip in Bangalore.

Route - Southern Splendour: It covers three states taking travellers through exotic locales starting from Bangalore and passing through Pondicherry, Tamil Nadu and ending the journey in Kochi.

Travel Info: Runs from October to April. Passengers can hop on and hop off anywhere along the routes, as long as they spend a total of three nights aboard.

Cost: "The Pride of the South" costs 16,500 rupees for Indians and $545 for foreigners per person, per night, based on double occupancy. The total for seven nights is 115,500 rupees ($3,815) per person. "Southern Splendor" costs 19,800 rupees for Indians and $627 for foreigners per person, per night, based on double occupancy. The total for seven nights is 138,600 rupees ($4,389) per person.
