Cellphones, knives, engagement rings, and grenades… You will find it hard to believe that these are some of the things that have found their way into people’s (and pets’) bodies. Even more amazingly, every single one of these people survived.

Some of the most bizarre X-ray finds happen to be the result of prisoners’ smuggling attempts gone awry. But even more disturbingly, you will find that people managed to get strange objects lodged in their body in everyday occurrences too.

Live Grenade



Mother-of-three Karla Flores was selling seafood on the streets when she was hit by a grenade launcher. The live grenade got embedded in her skull but did not detonate, but it could go off at any moment and kill everyone within 32 feet. None of the doctors in the local hospital were willing to operate on her, so they had an open call for volunteers. Four brave people came forward: Two anesthesiologists, Felipe Ortiz and Cristina Soto, the nurse Rodrigo Arredondo and Dr Lidia Soto. Along with two explosive experts from the Mexican army, they operated on Karla in an open field. The doctor, who wore no armor, successfully extracted the device.

Another Grenade



A suicide bomber lacking foresight swallowed a grenade. How he planned to detonate it from his stomach is anyone’s guess!

Proposal Ring



A man from New Mexico decided to propose to his girlfriend by hiding the ring in her milkshake. We do not know whether or not she said “yes.”

Fork



A woman in Israel accidentally swallowed a fork in an attempt to get rid of a cockroach that was somehow crawling down her throat.

Keys



When playing at home, 17-month old Nicholas Holderman fell on to his parents’ car keys, one of which pierced his eyelid and penetrated deep into his brain. Astonishly the American tot has since made a full recovery.

This guy was a little too excited to check his temperature.



20 Cobblestones



In 2006, a girl from Foshan, China, swallowed over 20 cobblestones in a fit of anger after quarreling with her boyfriend. She had expected her system to flush out the stones naturally. Obviously, she was wrong as they remained lodged in her stomach in the following days, and she had to undergo surgery to have them removed.

Knife



A sixteen-year-old teenager was stabbed in the head when he valiantly tried to stop a robbery in London back in 2008. Amazingly, the boy not only survived, but eventually made a full recovery.

Another Knife



A soldier survived this knife that was plunged 4 inches into his head.

Large Kidney Stone



The largest kidney stone on record, measuring 7 inches across and weighing in at 2.5 pounds, was removed from a man in Hungary.

Magnets



8-year old Haley Lents mistook magnets for candy and had to have surgery after eating them.

Nail



A dentist found the source of the toothache Colorado man Patrick Lawler was complaining about on the roof of his mouth: a four-inch nail the construction worker had unknowingly embedded in his skull six days earlier from a nail gun misfiring.

Knife (in puppy)



A St. Bernard puppy in Florida was found with a 13 inch serrated knife blade lodged between its stomach and esophagus. Poor puppy had to remain in that state for nearly 4 days before the knife was removed through a surgical procedure.

Scissors



First, a quick lesson: Always use toothpicks to pick your teeth, and nothing else. This person in China learned the hard way after using a pair of small scissors instead, and swallowed it by accident when laughing at a joke.

Tap



Ever fell in the bathroom? Be thankful this did not happen to you. 57-year-old Yi Zhao slipped in his tub and ended up with the tap handle lodged into his skull.

Drill



In a freak accident, construction worker Ron Hunt fell from a ladder when he was drilling, and landed face first onto the drill bit. The 18-inch rod went ripping through his eye socket and out the back of his head, behind his right ear. Miraculously the bit pushed his brain aside and he survived, and had to wear a glass eye.

Arrow



Also in China, a child was accidentally shot in the head with an arrow that pierced through his eye socket and went into the back of his skull. Despite the the close call he still somehow managed to survive.

Bedsprings and Batteries



Prisoners in Raleigh, North Carolina were found with batteries and bed springs in their stomachs in attempts to be admitted to outside hospitals.

Cellphone



A prisoner in San Salvador was found trying to smuggle a cellphone in his you-know-what. While this is no doubt a strange incident, under those circumstances, it is at least understandable.

Light Bulb



It’s amazing just how often people shove things up their butt and deny knowing anything about it. When doctors from Pakistan removed the light bulb from a prisoner he claimed to have no idea how it got there.

Bullet



A war veteran with a bad case of hemorrhoids panicked and tried to shove the piles back inside him using the nearest object he could find: an artillery shell from one of his war guns. The bomb squad was called in to build a lead box around his butt and defuse the shell before doctors could remove it.

Chair



Shafique el-Fahkri learned the hard way not get in bar fights Down Under when 20-year old Liam Peart hurled a chair in his direction. The result: one leg of the chair pierced through his eye socket and went all the way down through his neck.

Salad Tongs and Vibrator



A man was too embarrassed to seek medical attention after a vibrator became lodged in his butt. Instead, he tried to fish it out himself with a pair of salad tongs, which ended up with the same fate.
