Shreyas Iyer, a 'Pocket Dynamo', Announces His Arrival On IPL

http://goo.gl/h8MyDF
Exactly a year ago, a reluctant teenager was dragged to the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai to watch the home team play in the Indian Premier League. A little over two months ago, that boy went under the hammer for Rs 10 lakh at the IPL auction, and by the time the Kolkata Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians had been staved off by the Delhi Daredevils, he commanded a wage of Rs 2.6 crore. Only two days ago, the Mumbai Indians felt the full force of a flashing blade, 83 runs screaming off 56 balls as Shreyas Iyer announced himself to the world loud and clear.

New pocket dynamo in town! Shreyas Iyer hit some amazing shots in his knock of 60 and his first six nominates him for the #hotstarOfTheMatch.

The second ball of the 14th over was flat and outside off. Shreyas Iyer stayed in his crease and launched Harbhajan Singh over wide long on for a thumping six. (DD vs MI)

Delhi Daredevils assistant coach Praveen Amre applauded from the dug out as his pupil took on the most experienced bowler in the match.

The next ball was flighted outside off. Iyer got down on one knee and clobbered Harbhajan over deep mid-wicket for another mighty six. The youngest player on the field was treating the best MI bowler with utter disdain.

Delhi Daredevils came into the match desperately looking to snap their nine-match losing streak at Feroz Shah Kotla. But they were jolted in as early as third delivery of the match when Mayank Agarwal departed for one.

Iyer, who opened with Agarwal, wasn't perturbed. He flicked Lasith Malinga off the front foot, lofted Mitchell McClenaghan's slower ball over mid on and followed it up with a vicious cut over backward point for a six. That set the tone and then DD captain JP Duminy joined the party as the duo took the MI bowlers to the cleaners, adding added 154 runs from 16.1 overs - the highest partnership in IPL history.

As Iyer unfurled an array of lofts and cuts, the cricketing world sat back and took notice.

The youngster though is not thinking too far about his future and is just taking it one game at a time.

Having played a pivotal role in Delhi Daredevils' thumping win against Mumbai Indians, young opener Shreyas Iyer credited the team's assistant coach Pravin Amre for his new-found success in the IPL cricket tournament.
