Poseidon’s Mysterious Island is located in Fiji and comprises a 225 acre mile-long island surrounded by a pristine 5,000 acre lagoon. And the reason behind all the excitement is that this is to be the site of the world’s first predominantly underwater resort. Poseidon’s Mysterious Island would appear to have an appropriate name for more than one reason too, as currently is still a mystery as to when the resort will actually be open. The developers claim that the resort will be able to deal with 7,200 reservations per year, and currently there is a list of 150,000 potential guests who have registered so they can be informed when bookings will finally be taken. It must be encouraging for the developers to know that the queue for enjoying the resort’s facilities is already so long, and this has spurred them on to look for additional sites for further resorts.
But there are fears it may end up a wash out, as the Poseidon Underwater Resort in Fiji seems still no closer to opening its doors.
Forty feet under the sea in an off-shore lagoon, the luxury resort is set to house 25 suites, as well as a restaurant, bar, gym, and even an underwater wedding chapel. Even the £9,000 per week price tag has not put off the hoards of people desperate to stay.
Guests will have every right to complain if the fish of the day is not fresh at The Poseidon Underwater Resort – when it finally opens.

It was dreamed up by L Bruce Jones, chairman of the Triton/US Submarines company, and claims to be perfect for the ‘elite vacationer’. Each of the impressive habitable pods can be detached and taken to the surface for repairs. Building work on the project began in 2001 and it was meant to open in 2008.
A hotel spokesman said: ‘The resort is built to rigid safety requirements with high levels of structural integrity. Each room is isolated from the central hall and other rooms with a double pressure-proof door system and independent life support systems.
One question remains: Where do guests go in the event of a fire?
