"Dekh Le" New Ad Takes On Men Who Stare At Women In Public

In a subtle yet hard-hitting message about women's empowerment, Whistling Woods International has come up with a new ad called 'Dekh Le'.

'Dekh Le': This ad on women empowerment will make men cast their eyes down in shame. To leer, lech at, ogle, stare and pass snide remarks at women is seen as a right by men in India. And understandably enough, the act leaves women feeling uncomfortable and violated. While most of the women continue to suffer this ignominy in silence rather than speak up about it, Whistling Woods International (WWI), a film school in India, has sought to address the problem. Yes. ‘Can you stop staring at me, please?’ This is what the Whistling Woods International film on women’s empowerment seems to be screaming at to the men who do so.

The ad film shows various situations in which a woman is ogled at on a daily basis – on a bike or in a local train. We love the way the video emphasises that no matter what a girl is wearing, shorts or a burkha, she is gawked at. It ends with the women showing a mirror to these men whose embarrassed faces flash on it.

“This [Delhi gang-rape] incident did trigger a sense of solidarity to stand up, fight against and do our best to eradicate such atrocities and gender inequality,” Whistling Woods wrote on YouTube.

The video features song lyrics in the background, which translates into “Look how you look when you’re looking at me.”

Video also shows three men on a public bus starting at a woman’s cleavage, and another scene on a train depicting a man leering at a beautiful burqa-clad Muslim woman. In both cases, the females turn the tables on their unwanted admirers by showing them how absurd they look and putting them to shame.

The song Dekh le tu dekhte hue kaisa lagta hai has been composed by Ram Sampath and sung by singer Sona Mohapatra.
