Notts County ladies came up with a beautiful free-kick routine to fool their opposition and score
Free-kicks are an important component of every team’s goalscoring arsenal, and all teams put in a lot of work on their set-piece routines.
The Notts County ladies are no different, and they came up with a very innovative routine against Arsenal ladies, which allowed them to score after they fooled their opposition with two of their players approaching to shoot, then stepping away, and a third player scored with a low, curling effort.

What aided their case here was the fact that their routine didn’t backfire, and so had the desired impact. We all remember what happened when Germany tried an innovative set-piece with Thomas Muller.
The trio of Laura Bassett, Alex Greenwood and Ellen White were involved in it, with Bassett initially shaping up to take the free-kick, then stopping midway to argue with Greenwood, who then layed it off to White, whose curling effort went in.
Following the match, White spoke to BBC Radio Nottingham, saying, "Thankfully it came off. But now we can never do it again, which is a little annoying."
